URC member Lisa Druckenmiller recently attended FPU and here’s what she had to say about her experience:
Why did you decide to take the class?
Lisa: It was clear that I needed to get my finances straight. I earned a decent enough income, but my credit was in such bad shape I couldn’t qualify to rent an apartment. Secondly, I thought about when I meet Jesus face to face, I didn’t want to bring along with me the baggage of my debt. Not to say that debt is sin, but I needed to responsibly deal with it.
What did you find particularly helpful about the class?
Lisa: I liked the structure of the class – we’d watch a video and then talk about that video’s topic. Getting my bills organized and paying them off starting with the smallest debt first was huge. I found the total package of ideas very helpful – budgeting, paying off debt, understanding what insurance to have, saving for the future – it was all very practical, and I realized I could actually do this!
What would you say to someone that is considering taking the class?
Lisa: You’ll get something out of each session because it’s all relevant. It also seems like an ideal course for young couples to take, to help them get on the same page financially and work together.
Financial Peace University is a proven program that will show you how to master budgeting, save for emergencies, pay off debt, and plan and invest for the future. Transform how you handle money with courses taught by Dave Ramsey and his team of financial experts.
The best way to jump-start your financial journey is to join an in-person group and work the program with other people. A nine week class at URC begins on Wednesday, September 19th and will meet from 7:00 – 8:30 pm – it will be led by a team of URC volunteers.
The URC Diaconate is behind this initiative. We believe it can be a beneficial educational opportunity to help you learn how to manage your money. Having a sound biblical view of money and wealth is a complex matter that is fraught with danger on every side. We also realize that Dave Ramsey is not without his critics. Nevertheless, it seems to us that the benefits outweigh the risks, and we encourage you to consider taking this class.
The registration fee for the course is $119, and the course materials will be shipped directly to you.
