Sandram Phiri, one of our MRN Fellows, has completed his studies and will return to Malawi at the beginning of October. Sandram has held soccer camps in Malawi and here at URC and plans to continue this kind of outreach when he returns to Malawi. Many Malawi communities have only one (old) soccer ball or use compacted plastic bags and ropes to form a soccer ball. We would like to collect funds to purchase soccer balls that could be used for camps and then leave them behind so the community could use them when the camp is over. The Missions Committee, along with the Diaconate, are encouraging donations to enable Sandram to purchase the soccer balls back in Malawi. The cost of each ball ranges from about $20-40. Any contributions are appreciated – please donate directly to MRN via their website and note “Sandram Soccer Balls” in the comments section at the bottom.
The “Counseling Theology, Practice and Issues” class meets every Friday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. The class covers biblical counseling model and methods and the following counseling issues: helping hurting people, depression and anxiety, anger and conflict, gender and sexuality, grief and hope. This class is open to all and would be helpful for all those who counsel, disciple, mentor, lead growth groups, teach, and do evangelism; as well as those who would like to be lay counselors at URC. The class begins Friday October 6 and runs through May. Contact Pat Quinn with any questions.
Join us for our GO/SEND Missions Gatherings as we fellowship over a meal, explore topics related to missions (often with guest speakers), and pray for our missionaries together. We will meet after the second morning service on 9/17, 10/22, and 11/19. Contact Mary Simon if you would like to help with food.
